State Qualifier...

What many non-track, and some track people don't know is that...It is harder to qualify for the state meet than it is to qualify for the national competition in track and field. North Salem brought an unprecedented 13 athletes to the State Qualifier meet this past weekend. This meet represent the final stepping stone towards the ultimate goal of securing a spot at the state meet. Although none of the athletes qualified for the State Meet it was not due to a lack of effort. Every athlete that ran left everything on the track when they competed. Coach Davis and I could not have asked for anything more from these athletes.

Meet Highlights include:

Personal Bests

Cullin Burdett - 3200 meter run - 10:36.31

Tori Lowrie - Triple Jump - 30'.75"

Emma Ribaudo - 200 meter dash - 31.17

Christian Guzman - 1600 meter run - 4:47.33

Danny Schepps - 200 meter dash - 24.1

*Brenna Brown - Long Jump - 15'10.75

*Brenna also placed 2nd in the 100 hurdles and 3rd in the Long Jump...earning her 2 All-Section honorable mention awards.

The team brought 6 times the number of kids who attended last year. It is our hope that the program will continue to grow and that we will be fortunate enough to bring more kids to the State Qualifier each and every year.

School Records and Class C Chamipionships!!!

At the end of the season there is really no need for words. All of the year's hard work has been done. The performances will speak volumes about our athletes. Some say in life there are two options...you either do or you don't...Well...North Salem DID at the Class C Championships last Thursday.

Meet Highlights include:

NEW SCHOOL RECORD - Allison Schumann 1500 (5:12.3)...Allison's best time all year had been a 5:31. She had a breakthrough race about a week prior and ran a personal best 5:20. The following day in school Coach and I let her know that she was chasing history (a fact that she was already aware of). She went into this meet focused and determined to break the record. What is most amazing about this school record is that it lasted 24 years without being broken until now!

NEW SCHOOL RECORD - Casey Mullaney 100 (13.4)... Casey knew she could run the time. At a dual meet earlier in the season she was misreported as running a 13.1 which fueled the flame. Casey knew that she could break the record but she wanted it to be legitimate. In the back of her mind during each 100 meter race the thought of breaking the record was there. If it wasn't her friends would quickly remind her. At the class C meet she ran the race of her life and broke the 26 year old school record.

Class C Champion - Brenna Brown Long Jump (15-7.5)
3rd place 100 Hurdles - Brenna Brown

SENIORS GO OUT ON TOP!!!

Four to five years ago, the seniors began their journey as Varsity Track and Field athletes. Over the years they have had their ups and downs. On May 4th, 2010 they, along with the help of the underclassmen accomplished what no senior class has over the past few years...Winning their last home meet all while finishing the season with a winning record. More important than just a winning record, this senior class has developed a bond that will forever be forged in Victory.

A special thank you goes to our seniors:

The Future is BRIGHT!!!

"Best meet of the year" - Although simply stated...this quote summarizes the meet in its entirety. The North Salem Track and Field team competed at the Gold Rush Invitational this weekend at Clarkstown South High School. The path to success is carved through the stone of hard work, and that hard work and dedication was on display throughout the day, both on the track and in the field. The meet was full of personal records and medal award winners!!! More importantly, with half of the number of girls that the other teams had, we were still able to finish 7th out of the 14 teams. The meet was a tremendous success and allowed the program to take a glimpse into our future.

212 Degrees...

Coach Davis and I could not be more proud of what this Team has accomplished so far this season. Today was a breakthrough!!! We are truly starting to not only develop our talent but we are beginning to understand what it takes to be a team. Last week Coach and I challenged you...we said when you do something we want you to think to yourself...is this benefiting the team. Everything you did today made the team better and that is why we were able to compete.

TEAM MEETING WEDNESDAY FEB 24TH 3:00 MS CAFE!!! (bring your uniform)

Save the Best for Last!!!!

They say that all good things come to an end. Such is exactly the case with North Salem's Winter Track and Field Season. The team competed in their final meet of the Winter Season on Monday February 15th at the Manhattan Armory.

The Goal for the entire season was simple: Constantly improve and run your personal best every meet while earning the respect of their athletic peers. The team did just that. In our final meet the team left everything out on the track running some of the best times of the year. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the following people for a tremendous season:

The Athletes - you are the program...you guys are the reason were so successful this year.
The Parents - your sacrifices and endless patience during these long winter meets and practices was greatly appreciated.
The North Salem Faculty and Staff - thank you for supporting the program and understanding why there were 45 kids running by your classroom on snowy days.
Coach Becerra - your tireless dedication to the program and all that you did is and was greatly appreciated.

Please click the following link to actually see the improvement that all of the athletes made throughout the season. The data presented shows the athlete's top time and also gives you the option to look at each athlete's profile (times throughout the year) by clicking on their name.

Westchester County Championships

As The North Salem Track team completed their competition on Sunday night, one thing was clear...The Future of the North Salem Track and Field team is extremely bright. The Westchester County Championship meet displayed some of the greatest talent in the State of New York. The young North Salem team did not back down from the challenge. The goal on Sunday was not to meet the level of the competition, but to go beyond the limits of what was possible for each athlete.

Meet Highlights

4 X 200 Relay
The relay team continues to get better with each race. Nathalie, Helen, Emma, and Noemie annihilated there original time of 2:06 by running two minutes flat during Sunday’s meet.

600
Helen, Shawn, Johnny and Mike all ran personal best during the 600 meter run. Our top 600 meter runners will have the chance to qualify for the state competition at the Class A meet on February 15th.

2 mile
Cullin ran a personal best of eleven minutes flat on Sunday, dropping his personal best by 26 seconds from the beginning of the season.

**Several members of the team have the chance to qualify for the State competition. The meet on February 15th will determine who continues on to the state competition. Please come out and support the members of the Varsity Track team on Monday February 15th as they compete for state spots at 2:30 inside the Manhattan Armory!!!

Once great now we're back we are League Champs!!!

Congratulations to the Athletes, Parents, and all supporters of North Salem Track and Field. The return from the holiday break proved to be both successful and rewarding. The Track and Field Team competed in the following 3 meets:

Donny Dendy meet @ Rockland on Wednesday Jan. 6th:
The Dendy Meet was an opportunity for the majority of athletes to compete in races that are not typically run during a winter season. For example the athletes had the chance to run races such as the open 400,200 and 800 meter run. The team started the day off slowly but picked up the pace quickly and started to compete. The day finished with an exciting 4 x 400 meter relay.

Rockland Coaches Invitational on Friday Jan. 8th:
This meet was an invitation-only meet allowing a select number of athletes from each team. This meet was a success! All of the athletes in attendance ran a season best in each of their respective races. During the meet the team debut its 4 x 800 meter relay team.

League Championships on Sunday Jan. 10th:

Congratulations to the League Champion girls and boys 4 x 200 meter relay teams!!!

The Team won a total of 18 medals
Gold - 2
Silver - 5
Bronze - 11

Boys 800 relay
" Although we truly missed our lead leg Conway Brown (due to an injury in the 55 dash) Mike Prisciandaro, Johnny Law, Shawn Miles and Danny Schepps rallied to run within 5 seconds of the school record."

Boys 3200 relay
"The boys truly left everything on the track Sunday when they ran a season best 9:28, breaking the previous season's best by 20 seconds. The individual efforts of these young men lead to an amazing finish, only missing the league championship by 1 second."

Girls 800 Relay
"When two freshmen, one 8th grader and a sophomore run 5 seconds off the school record while winning a league championship...the future is extremely bright"

Boys 3200 run
"Senior Christian Guzman Ran the race of his life, running a 10:25 which dropped his personal best by 15 seconds"
